Co-design facilitation

As DEI Design & Delivery Coordinator, I facilitated the co-design of a rainbow kaimahi experience discovery day. I guided the co-designers in designing activities to engage participants in sharing their lived experiences. I created illustrations and other visual assets to enhance the collaborative experience.

Process
  1. Assessed capability, gathered resources, pitched co-design approach and project to stakeholders.
  2. Recruited co-design team, facilitated whakawhanaungatanga (building of relationships) and co-planned the design process.
  3. Established a co-created framework for safety and shared values.
  4. Convened an ideation and mapping session to co-decide what aspects of the employee experience the activities would focus on.
  5. Supported co-designers to create activity plans by providing templates and creating assets for the activities they created.
  6. Coordinated the delivery of the discovery day, with a focus on accessibility and inclusion.
  7. Digitised the qualitative data, called an ending to the co-design process and celebrated our co-designer with acknowledgement certificates and pins.

Outcomes
  • Gained insights into the diversity of rainbow employee experiences across different stages of employment.
  • Piloted a co-design methodology for gaining a better understanding of diverse employee experience.
  • Provided qualitative data to inform actionable recommendations for various HR functions.

Accessibility toolkit prototype

Working towards staff disability confidence, I was given a brief to design a digital toolkit that provides a streamlined experience for staff to integrate accessibility into their everyday work. The scope of this project was that I would not be creating new materials but designing a digital learning experience with existing resources that demystify accessibility, making the learning process simple, engaging, and accessible.

Process
  1. Discovery:  Conducted desk research of existing resources on the University Website and market research on other accessibility toolkits and learning resources.
  2. Ideation: Mapped resources to different knowledge areas and begun ideating layouts and user flows through low-fidelity wireframes on paper and Figma.
  3. Prototyping: Refined content and user flow while building out the pages of the toolkit and iterating based on feedback from my team and stakeholders.

Outcomes
  • Functional prototype accessibility toolkit on Figma to share with stakeholders and get feedback.
  • Actionable next steps for marketing and communications advisor to iterate based on stakeholder feedback and build the toolkit in Adobe Experience Manager based on the prototype.
